What is a DFXP file?
DFXP, the Distribution Format Exchange Profile, is the timed-text format that grew out of the W3C’s work on TTML. While TTML was being standardized, the specification itself was called DFXP. Players and platforms of that era, including Adobe Flash Player’s captioning components, adopted the name and the .dfxp extension. After TTML 1.0 was published, DFXP lived on as the name of its distribution profile.
A DFXP file is an XML TTML document: a <tt> root, optional styling and layout in the <head>, and timed <p> elements in the <body>. Many DFXP files in circulation were produced by older tools. They mix timing styles, use legacy namespaces, or rely on player-specific styling, so a reliable converter has to be tolerant on input and strict on output.
DFXP is still requested by several platforms and content management systems, and several specifications are named after it. Closed Caption Converter supports the generic DFXP profile plus Netflix DFXP and Crunchyroll DFXP.

DFXP questions
Essentially, yes. DFXP is the original name and a profile of TTML 1.0. A DFXP file is a TTML document, usually with a .dfxp extension. The differences that matter in practice come from the delivery spec a file was written for.
Choose DFXP as the source profile and SRT as the target. Timing is converted to milliseconds, line breaks are preserved, and styling and region placement are removed because SRT cannot express them. See DFXP to SRT.
Netflix’s current specifications call for its own Timed Text profiles. Closed Caption Converter includes Netflix TT Captions, Netflix TT Subtitles and Netflix DFXP, so you can match whichever profile your delivery spec names.
